Spring Break Activities on Fort Myers Beach

It’s Spring Break on Fort Myers Beach!

Spring Break is a fantastic time to try something new and exciting with your family!  Whether you are escaping from the cold weather up north, or just enjoying a break from school and work, Fort Myers Beach is the place to be.  Fort Myers Beach, also called Estero Island, is home to many fun and educational activities.  If you know where to look, you can find something to fill every day of your vacation.  And, lucky for you, I am a native Floridian who has lived on Fort Myers Beach for over 33 years!  I am going to share some of our family favorites, from watersports activities and Calusa Indian historical sites to outstanding local restaurants. Although the island is still recovering from Hurricane Ian, there are plenty of activities and fun things to do to keep your family entertained.

Beach Day

There is no better way to wind down from the stress of traveling than a relaxing beach day.  You can sip on a frozen Pina Colada and make your plans for the rest of the week under a large shady beach umbrella.  You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas at several locations on Fort Myers Beach.  One of our favorite spots is DiamondHead Beach Resort.  Beach Chairs and umbrellas are available to rent daily and weekly.  DiamondHead is a short walk from the crowded Downtown District.  So, if you are looking for a place to relax that has a beach-side bar and grill, check out our location for beach chair and umbrella rentals at DiamondHead Beach Resort   To make a reservation, walk down to the beach at the resort, or call us at 239-765-2252!

Several resorts also offer beach service for their in-house guests as part of the resort fee.  And, some resorts, such as the Pink Shell Beach Resort and Marina, offer resort day passes to purchase.  When you purchase a resort day pass, you get to use the amenities at the resort for the day, including Beach Chairs and Umbrellas.  So even if you are not staying on Fort Myers Beach, you can still enjoy a luxurious resort day.

Water Sports Activities

Once you are rested up and ready for some action, you will want to check out our Dolphin Adventure Tours on Yamaha Waverunners.  This 90-minute guided tour is a fantastic trip for families and groups.  Our trained guides will lead you down to the South end of the island where we enter the back bay near Lover’s Key State Park.  Once in the beautiful, calm waters of the bay area, our guides will instruct you on the proper viewing of dolphins, manatees, birds, fish and other wildlife native to our area.  This trip is great for adventure seekers of all ages.  The tour guides travel through the Gulf of Mexico at a higher rate of speed to give everyone a chance to feel a rush of adrenaline, and then we slow down in the back bay to view the wildlife.  You can book our Dolphin Adventure Tour online here.  My advice is don’t wait until your last day to book your tour!  Florida weather can change quickly and you don’t want to miss your opportunity to enjoy a fun day on the water.  Hourly and half-hour rentals are also available on our Yamaha Waverunners. See the links at the bottom of this post for more information and reservations!

Mound Key and the Mound House

Did you know the Calusa Indians once inhabited Estero Island? Over two thousand years ago the Calusa Indians dominated most of the southwest region of Florida.  They lived in small villages or fishing stations. The Calusa people built shell mounds, which are called midden, to give them higher ground in case of high tides and storms. One of these mounds can be explored right here on Fort Myers Beach.  The Mound House is a protected archeological and historical sight.  It was built on top of a Calusa mound in 1906.  Today you can tour the house and learn about the Calusa Indians.  To learn more, click this link.

Private Sunset and Nature Cruises

Looking for a romantic evening on the water?  Or do you want to enjoy a boat day with your family without the worry and hassle of driving the boat?  Holiday Adventure Tours and Boat Rental has you covered!  Leave the driving to the USCG licensed Captain!  They can customize a tour to fit your group’s comfort level.  So, if you want to cruise in the back bay to see the famous Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Fleet, and learn about “Pink Gold,” book a private sightseeing cruise. The private sunset cruise is another family favorite.  Bring your food and drinks aboard and come watch one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world with the people YOU choose to be around you.  You can check out other activities like boat rentals and back bay fishing charters if you click this link.  Or just call directly to book a reservation at 239-463-8661.

My Favorite Seafood Restaurants

There are so many great restaurants on Fort Myers Beach!  I choose seafood places where I know the shrimp are locally harvested “Pink Gold,” and the fish is fresh off the boat.  I highly recommend Snug Harbor Waterfront Restaurant.  It is located on the water next to Bayside Park.  The owners are long-time residents and they know the seafood business.  You can bring your own catch into the restaurant if you choose, and they will cook it up for you and serve it with delicious sides.  If you don’t mind a short drive over the bridge, then you have to check out Dixie Fish Company  Everything on the menu is delicious.  I always recommend the chef specials at both restaurants.  Both restaurants are right on the water and dockage is usually available.

Best Pizza on the Beach

If you are looking for the best pizza, you have to visit Petey’s Upper Deck at Matanzas Restaurant.  The lower level of the restaurant is still under repairs from Hurricane Ian, but the upper deck is open for business.  They serve Dave’s Dockside Pizza and have live entertainment daily.  I love their Pina Coladas!  You can also visit this location by boat and it is right on the water.

Parasailing Adventures

And finally, it is not Spring Break in Florida if you don’t go parasailing!  The best parasailing company in town is Estero Island Parasail They have two pick-up locations on Fort Myers Beach.  You can board the boat at the Pink Shell Beach Resort or DiamondHead Beach Resort.

There are so many exciting activities to explore on Fort Myers Beach. Come enjoy your Spring Break with us!
